Where to stay
London’s hotel scene is incomparable. With the first phase of its extensive renovation complete, the Beaumont ascends once again as one of Mayfair’s grande dames. Located on a quiet garden square, this intimate and welcoming Art Deco icon features a new lounge and al fresco dining terrace. By contrast, newly reopened Nobu Portman Square, located near Marylebone’s boutiques and Mayfair’s bars, fully embraces the present, with a peacefully minimalist design ethos and color palette that underscores the brand’s focus on health and wellness. Also open after much anticipation is the 92-room NoMad Hotel London, located inside the historic Bow Street Magistrates’ Court and Police Station in Covent Garden (London’s first professional police force was founded here in 1749, as you will learn at the new museum that adjoins the hotel).
Where to eat and drink
Among the most hotly anticipated tables in town, Maison François (located on the former site of Green’s on Duke Street in St. James’s) is an all-day brasserie with stellar service, an expansive wine list, and classic French dishes that rival any you will find in Paris. Meanwhile, on the site of the old L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Covent Garden, Louie offers up Creole and French cuisine for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. Named for Louis Armstrong and King Louis XIV, the five-storey space conjures up the hedonism of New Orleans in the Jazz Age, but the food is the star attraction (try the seafood gumbo and oyster po’boy eclairs). In Chelsea, the new Omakase Sushi Bar at Beaverbrook Townhouse offers an exquisite 18-course tasting menu from master chef Goemon Ishikawa that includes Japanese hamachi, Cornish white crab, and Scottish lobster. For pre- or post-dinner cocktails, head to the Red Room at the Connaught or the lobby bar at Chiltern Firehouse.

What to see now
Beyond providing relief from the mercurial winter weather, London’s esteemed museums and galleries are an endless source of creative inspiration. Upcoming exhibitions at White Cube, one of London’s leading contemporary art galleries, include abstract paintings and films by Sarah Morris and new works by Nigerian painter Tunji Adeniyi-Jones. Pace Gallery has expanded its footprint in London with a new Hanover Square space by Jamie Fobert Architects. For a more historical art survey, tour the Wallace Collection, which includes Frans Hals’ ‘The Laughing Cavalier’, Fragonard’s ‘The Swing’, and other major works from the 5th to the 19th centuries, or visit the Royal Academy of Arts, where Francis Bacon’s visceral paintings are on view through April 2022.
What to pack
Evolving from the unwieldy trunk to the more practical suitcase in 19th-century Europe, modern luggage was elevated to a fine art by Globe-Trotter, the iconic brand established in 1897 in Saxony, Germany. Globe-Trotter carries on its tradition of high-quality craftsmanship with handsome cases that evoke the Golden Age of travel. Up your suitcase game by commissioning a one-of-a-kind bag with custom locks, buckles, linings, handles, and colours. Globe-Trotter offers bespoke services that help you create a personalised bag that’s entirely your own. All Globe-Trotter bags are made of durable, lightweight vulcanised fibreboard – perfect for your next Aero flight. Connect with our Concierge team to arrange this experience.
