Nice to see you, Nice

Nice to see you, Nice

Many Côte d’Azur holidays begin in Nice. It’s the gateway to the region. Start with a seaside stroll along Promenade des Anglais and settle into the area’s relaxed way of life. Be sure to see the Henri Matisse Museum, as well as the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMAC). For a taste of Provençal cooking, head from Nice to the hilltop medieval village of Èze, where chef Arnaud Faye prepares the local catch of the day at the two-Michelin-starred La Chèvre d’Or. Stay at the property's namesake five-star hotel for panoramic views over the sapphire sea.

Head west from Nice to famed locales such as Antibes, Cannes and Saint Tropez. Antibes, for one, is known as the yachting capital of the Mediterranean. Set sail on a private charter, or, if you’re more of an arts aficionado, head to the Picasso Museum at Grimaldi Castle. For an indulgent stayover, drive out to Cap d’Antibes, home to the world famous Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc–the site of Chanel fashion shows, multi million dollar weddings and celebrity honeymoons over the years. Cannes and Saint-Tropez are other well-known hotspots. The former hosts the high-profile Cannes Film Festival, while the latter, popularized by Brigitte Bardot in the 1950’s, promises lush gardens, intimate restaurants, and lively nightclubs.

High stakes in Monaco

High stakes in Monaco

Only 30 minutes or so from Nice in an easterly direction, Monaco is a singular (and memorable) experience in and of itself. This pocket-sized principality boasts an extraordinary array of enviable private art collections. Make like James Bond and center yourself on Place du Casino at the iconic Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, a veritable Belle Époque palace. Or, for something a little more reserved (but not by much), stay in style at Villa La Vigie, the late Karl Lagerfeld’s former summer home. Be sure, as well, to organize a proper “promenade en mer” via classic wooden Riva boat. Lastly, stop for dinner at the three-Michelin-starred Mirazur, considered to be one of the best restaurants in the world.
