Journey with Aero to this underrated Idaho hotspot

Salmon swim over 1,000 miles to spawn in the lakes and rivers around Sun Valley. We know a much quicker and less arduous route. Book first-class flights with Aero to the secluded celebrity playground once frequented by Hemingway. Though known as America’s first destination ski resort, there’s plenty to do come summer (or not do, if mountain solitude is what you’re after) in and around Sun Valley and the neighboring town of Ketchum.

Where to Stay

Where to Stay

Knob Hill Inn Sun Valley Idaho
Knob Hill Inn
Modeled after a Swiss ski chalet, this 29-room inn makes an excellent home base for exploring the surrounding mountains, lakes, and rivers of Sun Valley. A day roughing it on the hiking trail can be rewarded with smart cocktails on the outdoor terrace at The Grill, where highlights include Idaho Ruby Red Rainbow Trout, prime steaks, and wild game.
Limelight Hotel Ketchum
Experience laid-back luxury at this in-town Ketchum hotel. Though almost every window frames a postcard-perfect view of the surrounding mountains, we recommend staying in one of the Limelight’s six spacious suites, each with a large living room, fireplace, king bed, queen sofa sleeper, and double vanity. Perfect for families, pets included.
Sun Valley Lodge
Built in 1936 by the Union Pacifc Railroad, Sun Valley Lodge continues to reinvent itself. Though its Hollywood glory days may be over, this storied establishment remains a solid accommodation choice, especially if you want easy access to the area’s best summer mountain biking trails. Fun fact: Ernest Hemingway completed For Whom the Bell Tolls while staying in suite 206.

Horseback Riding Sun Valley
Sun Valley Music Festival
The largest admission-free concert series in the United States returns to in-person performances for its 37th summer season in 2021 (over a dozen concerts from July 26-August 19). Pack a picnic basket and enjoy the sounds of distinguished chamber and orchestral ensembles from across North America, all in a state-of-the-art outdoor pavilion.
Stargazing
With its remote Central Idaho location, far removed from from urban and suburban light pollution, Sun Valley is the perfect place to see the stars (no, we’re not talking about Tom Hanks, who has a second home in Ketchum). The Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve is a 1,416-square-mile territory with the clearest skies in the continental United States. On a clear night, you can see the Milky Way and countless shooting stars.
Golf Lessons
Under the direction of PGA professional Jeff Petersen, instructors at the Sun Valley Golf Club offer private lessons for every level of player. Already know how to swing like a pro? Try the resort’s 18-hole Trail Creek championship course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. If you’re just in it for the scenery, hit the nine-hole White Clouds course, which affords jaw-dropping views of the Wood River Valley.
